- Waste as a Resource / Industrial Symbiosis
We are a diversified, solutions-based company, supporting and strengthening communities in what we do and how we do it. We take problems and turn them into opportunities to meet today’s needs without compromising future generations. OUR MISSION IS TO SUPPORT COMMUNITIES THROUGH WHAT WE DO, HOW WE DO IT, AND BY CARING ABOUT OUR PEOPLE, OUR NEIGHBOURS AND THE ENVIRONMENT. IT IS OUR LEGACY AND OUR FUTURE.
People rely on our products and services every day. From building roads and bridges to safely disposing of waste, what we do matters. How we do it though, is of equal importance. Choosing to always look for environmentally responsible solutions, finding innovative ways to recover materials from waste and keeping employees safe through a commitment to health and safety is the way we do business. It’s the Walker way.
At Walker, we strive to tackle the current paradigm of take-make-waste approach to natural resources. Organic waste is responsible for up to 1/3 of GHG generated globally, we repurpose this waste into beneficial commodities. Our focus is to eliminate the need for virgin, raw, and synthetic material in production of a agricultural amendments, renewable and low-carbon alternative fuels.
At walker food waste turn to compost, agricultural residue turns to soil amendments, and wood waste turns to alternative low-carbon fuels for industrial use. Through diversified lines of business that allows us to leverage equipment, machinery, technology and other resources we pilot projects that aim at repurposing waste (e.g. food waste, agricultural waste, wood waste, shingles, etc..).
We envision a world where waste is repurposed and there is limited need for disposal of valuable resources.
Canada’s progress toward a circular economy is dependent on the support given to business who embrace these essential principles.
~ Design out waste and pollution
~ Keep products and materials in use
